Introduction to Style Sheets: First working example

Introduction

I will not use all of the styles in the style sheet that is set up in the head of this document but I hope to give you some idea of the ease of use and power of a style sheet by showing just a few examples.

Differences

You will, by now I hope, have noticed the differences between the regular pages of this site and this example. Here is a list of a few of the changes introduced by the embedded style sheet.

I tried setting up both an Ordered List and an Unordered List. Neither one has a character at the beginning of each item in Netscape 4.7. Perhaps Internet Explorer recognizes the "list-style" attribute. Perhaps someone could let me know. This is an ongoing problem with all browsers. None of them have fully implemented the CSS 1 standards.

Despite their popularity. There are no styles to accompany any of the standard HTML table tags. Perhaps the W3C people thought the sample was already long enough. Designers who use tables will learn quite quickly what styles can be used.
